DELICIOUS PARADOX, 2025
SIX-CHANNEL HD FILM AND AUDIO INSTALLATION
3:49 (CONTINUOUS LOOP)

A paradox is a concept that appears absurd or contradictory but may prove to be true. Ecologists Gunderson and Holling (2002) describe resilience as a ‘delicious paradox’, observing that the most resilient communities are those who achieve stability through a process of constant change and adaptation (43). Delicious Paradox offers a real-time application of Gunderson and Holling’s adaptive resilience theory. Everyday household objects and sounds form, deconstruct and adapt in a continuous cycle, dancing from screen to screen to form layered visual and auditory assemblages only possible through digital render and serendipitous timing. The result is a multi-sensory, immersive and limitless experience offers the viewer a new lens by which to consider the wider applications of resilience to everyday life.

LIVELY MATTER, 2022
HD SINGLE CHANNEL FILM

Lively Matter is a 29-minute moving image that documents the loop of construction, deconstruction and adaptation of 120 assemblages composed of everyday objects and materials across 24 cycles.  The crude evolution of each object’s assembly is accompanied by an assortment of over 160 sounds foraged from home and work to comprise the film’s score, providing the context of place, environment, belonging and adaptation. Modelled on adaptive resilience cycles proposed by ecologist C.S. ‘Buzz’ Holling (1973), this interdisciplinary exploration combines resilience theory with contemporary creative process to offer a real-time model of an ecological process while elevating the messy, complicated and beautiful connections between nature and culture. The resulting film reflects the power of novelty, innovation and memory to evoke resilience during a period of unprecedented disturbance and instability.

I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians, the Turrbul and Jagera peoples, and their Country on which I live and work. I recognize their continuing connection to place: to the land, the water and culture. I pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. Always was, Always will be Aboriginal Land.
